We have moved! We are officially residents of Seattle!
I probably don’t have to tell you, but the last 2 months have been a bit chaotic. We’ve been wrapping things up at work, trying to sell the house, getting moved… you know the process. But we are here and marginally settled. And LOVING IT!
I am beyond ecstatic to be living in Seattle now. It still doesn’t seem real, but yet does… It’s hard to explain. I keep having to remind myself that I don’t have to leave. And I keep catching myself walking down the street with the biggest smile on my face; This is my city. This is home.
We were able to time everything perfectly, and arrived just in time to do a walkthrough of our new apartment. It was nice not having to stay in temporary housing, for a variety of reasons, though I don’t feel 100% settled yet because we don’t have most of our things. The movers are delivering everything this week. I’m most excited for my bed, as I’ve been on an air mattress for the last 2 weeks and I don’t know how much more my body can take. I’m getting enough sleep, just not quality sleep, and it’s starting to affect me. We chose not to move any other furniture, so the place will still be pretty empty even after everything is delivered. But at least I will have a bed and a full kitchen by this weekend. And I’m excited to go furniture shopping for this space. It’s a blank canvas!
In the meantime we’ve been spending a lot of time at my best friend’s apartment. She has a fully stocked kitchen and a couch, which is a big deal right now. She and I have already started meal planning/meal prep together, and are hoping to dial in a few other routines in the next few weeks. You know, helping each other be our best selves and all. Our friendship started over food and she’s been my best foodie/cooking buddy ever since. We are so excited to be close enough to cook together on a regular basis! We love going out and exploring new culinary options as well, but it will benefit us both to have help and inspiration to stay home and cook our own delicious foods. I’ll link some of the delicious recipes we tried this week at the end.
One thing I am trying to get used to is ordering groceries. We sold our car when we moved, so don’t have our own transportation. I can go to the store to shop, but whatever I buy I have to carry home. So here we order online and have our groceries delivered to our apartment door. I’m primarily using Amazon Now, which includes Amazon, Whole Foods, and a few other vendors. I’m still exploring some other options. And of course I’m going down to the market for produce and other goodies. There are just so many options! And if I don’t loose weight from walking everywhere, it’s because there’s a macaron shop right across from my apartment. Ugh. So good.
Pat starts at Amazon on Monday and I am getting set up for remote work. The company I’ve been with for the last few years has offered to keep me as a contracted employee, which is magical, so I will be working for them part time from home. This is going to allow me time to explore other pursuits, including settling into a more consistent blog routine. I’m also going to be focusing time on YouTube, both learning and uploading, and am excited see where that goes. And of course I am hoping to build a small side business doing dreadlocks. I’m giving myself 6 months to see what all I can build, and will re-evaluate my trajectory at the end of the year.
We are both so excited for this new chapter in our lives, and I am excited to share some of it with you!

Honey Sriracha Chicken – we made the sauce to go over chicken (for the boys) or marinated tempeh (for the girls). We’re adding steamed or sautéed broccoli for a bit of veg.
